Merging Data from a Transfer File

This suite of routines is not available within the EASI range of systems, but if you do transfer data from another system, then having merged the standard data, please exit the Consignment Maintenance area.

In a "real life" situation, if you are using the option to transfer data from the company's sales order processing system, then you would merely select this option to read a transfer file by one of the following two ways :-
1.      The first is via the text options on the toolbar, via the options "Externals", followed by "Read a Consignment"
2.      The second is via the icon on the toolbar. You will then be presented with the standard Windows file selection window, with a filter pre-defined in the system as to the standard location of such files and you should merely either double-click on a file, or click on a file and then the Open button, and the system wil first give you the option of what to do with the transfer file on completion of the reading process, and the following graphic will be displayedl:-

normally the choice is to delete the file. The system will then
a.      open the file and start to read it into the Formwise system, firstly
b.      merging in the consignee record specified in the transfer file, then
c.      merge the product and possibly charge records defined in the transfer file
d.      show progress of the reading of the file, and possibly carry on to
e.      run the auto-allocation routine(s) for both Customs and Hazard, which are discussed on the subsequent pages.

If the consignment already exists, the system will advise you and ask if you wish to re-import the data, and also please note that some system run a two stage process, where the header data for a consignment is in one file, and the line item data in another. If this is the case, you should find two icons, and holding the mouse over them will give a hint as to their use.
