Creating records in this database allows the system to summarise items of a similar hazard and type of packing together. This is perhaps best demonstrated by discussing the example of paint
(UN 1263), where we wish to summarise cans of the same size, flash point etc but of say different colours into one entry on a dangerous goods note, Equally the products may have differing flash points, be in cans, in spray containers etc.
We need to provide a link between the product and hazard files of the system, and although the UN number may seem an obvious choice of hazard code, we wish to summarise against both the hazard, flashpoint and packing types. Thus one solution may be that if a product has a flash point of 40C, input to the hazard code field of the product file a code of "1263+40". This code will not print on any documentation, and merely links to the correct record in the hazard file which has a code of "1263+40". You can then edit the required shipping description. An extension of this would be to store a hazard code in the product of 63+404X5, where the description merged would then be for paint with a flash point of 40oC and packed in cartons each containing four 5litre tins. This code would need to be logged against each product code to which it applies.
We consider this option so important that it also can be accessed directly from the Toolbar by clicking on the
